Fall in Flower Mound

This encapsulates everything that is great about the fall

School has officially started and the leaves are changing color, that means fall has come to Flower Mound once again! The new season brings a spectrum of exciting change; including two of our favorite things in Flower Mound.

In Texas, Fall is all about football…

In the Lone Star state, football is our lifeblood. The amphitheater in which some of our best athletes battle for glory.

There are few things that signal your priorities better than your wallet, and lately, we’ve had some eye-opening expenditures that people who aren’t Texans might not understand.

Allen received a lot of national attention after recently spending more than $60 million dollars to build a new stadium for the Eagle football team. Not to be outdone, McKinney just approved a $70 million dollar stadium for their teams, all the result of a stadium arms race that began in 2001 with Carroll.

While our own Jaguars “make do” with a capacity of 10,000, we still manage to hang with the other greats, playing 6A ball against some of the best high school teams in the country. Just in our district, we face heavyweights like Trinity, Carroll, and our rivals Marcus, all of whom rank in the top 5% of teams in the country.

How have the Flower Mound Jaguars done thus far in the 2016 season? They started the season by giving W.T. White a hammering, and getting edged out in the following weeks by Keller Fossil Ridge and Timber Creek. After a hard loss to Carroll (one of the best teams in the country), the Jaguars showed a restored vigour with a strong win over Brian Nelson.

In my opinion, the game to watch will be against the Marcus Marauders on October 21st. The rivals have a 50% win rate against one another in what has come to be known as the Mound Showdown.

If the Jaguars want to prove they are still a team to be reckoned with, they will need to prevent Marcus from getting their third win in a row.

… and Fried Fair Food

The country’s biggest fair is underway and that means we are in for a lot of excitement. We’ll try not to get so excited that Big Tex catches fire again. Poor guy; he didn’t deserve such a fate.

While there is a lot to look forward to at the Texas State Fair such as carnival rides, music, and cars, what I am most anticipating is the food. Specifically, the dozens of varieties of mind boggling fried food that some of our best artisans are able to create, every year.

We have a lot of inspired creations making their debut this year.

  • Blackened Shrimp Baked Potato
  • Chocolate Tease Wine Cooler
  • Crunchy Fried Oinkers
  • Dallas’ Fried Bacontilla
  • Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Tater’ Dog
  • Deep Fried Cannoli Bites
  • Deep Fried Clam Chowda
  • Deep Fried Nachos
  • Deep Fried Smoked Salmon & Bacon Croquettes
  • Doritos Bacon Mozzarella
  • Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
  • Dual Lamp Chop w/ Twice Baked Potato Fries
  • Fried Cajun Crisp
  • Fried Prime Rib Quesadilla
  • Loaded Bacon Mashed Potato Egg Roll
  • Lollipop Fried Bacon Wrapped Quail Breast on a Stick
  • Mama’s Garlic Fries
  • Pecan Pie Poppers
  • Shrimp Fritters
  • State Fair Edible Cola
  • Turkey Leg Tacos

You don’t have to choose

Fun at the Texas State Fair will run through October 23rd, so there should be plenty of opportunities to test your taste buds against the rare delicacies that Texas has to offer. Just be sure to enjoy the tastes of the fair in moderation!

For those of you who can’t decide whether football or the state fair are more exciting (the correct answer is football), then don’t forget that the Cotton Bowl Stadium will be the center of the action.

You’ll be able to catch Prairie View A&M v. Grambling State, University of Texas v. University of Oklahoma, and Air Force v. New Mexico!
